Why is Test and Tagging important in your Workplace?
The aim of test and tagging is to check that the equipment used are in the best condition and if not, the equipment that is damaged should be removed from the workplace, therefore preventing dangerous situations for you, your employees and clients. By testing your tools, leads and appliances on a regular basis it will lead to reduce risk in electrical injuries and death. Failure to ensure your electrical equipment is safe at all times can lead to injury or worse, death to anyone within the workplace whether it be yourself, your employees or your clients.
Some techniques that can be undertaken to test electrical equipment is as follows:
- The batteries of all appliances should be regularly checked so as to ensure no loss of electrical supply is there.
- To ensure no breakage of electrical cables is there.
- Providing proper electrical earthing in all sockets.
- Providing proper insulating materials as the base of all appliances so as to minimise the risk of electrical shocks.
Further to provide safety of all humans, all electrical appliances should be properly tested before use. Along with electrical tagging and electrical testing, all the safety measures should also be kept in mind before using electricity. For example, one should never use electrical appliance bare footed or with wet hands. Appliance testing should be done properly so as to ensure personal safety.
Occupational health and safety (OHS) refers to the legislation, policies, procedures and activities that aim to protect the health, safety and welfare of all people in the workplace. Every worker has a right to healthy and safe work and a work environment that enables them to live a socially and economically productive life.
